Holidays in East India

The North-Eastern part of India is one of the most beautiful yet least explored parts of India. Divided into seven separate states, also called the ‘Seven Sisters’ this region is the country’s chief tribal area, with all the tribes having their own respective cultures, methodologies, languages and traditions.
This part of the country is known to have some of the richest natural beauty. With the river Brahmaputra flowing down and the largest frontier in the world, the Himalayas, standing tall towards the north, the land seems washed clean of all that is not desirous to the human eye. The area has rich foliage and when in bloom the flowers can be quite amazing. Rich in wildlife, the region houses the famous Kaziranga Sanctuary with the special attraction being the one-horned rhino, where all animal lovers can partake of different experiences.
And then of course, there are the famous tea gardens of the east. Be it Darjeeling, Assam, or the Nilgiris, tea is an essential part of the landscape here and makes for much of the tourist interest. Tours are often organized to give visitors a glimpse into the functioning and beauty of the plantations and these have received much popularity over time.
The region also has a very deep grounding in religion. Be it temples, churches, mosques or monasteries, all faiths dwell in harmony and carry on a give-and–take relationship with each other. There is also much song and music that fills the air in the east and the strength and smoothness of the voices of the local people can make even the most cynical of us close our eyes and smile. We can also see classical styles of artistic performances like the Manipuri and traditional festivals like the Bihu.
As you plan your trip to the eastern part of India you can start looking forward to an array of diverse experiences – glorious sunsets over the western coastline, rare glimpses of the one- horned Rhinoceros at the Kaziranga wild life sanctuary in Assam, the spell binding intricacy and precision of the Konark temple in Orissa, and glimpses of snow reflected atop the Mt Kunchenjunga from Darjeeling. Each of these will become a memory you will cherish, and over time the magic of eastern India will draw you back to savour even more of her richness and beauty. And once you’ve been here you will never be able to stay away.
